Overview

In exploring the mysteries of Genetically Induced Obesity, Protheragen has been committed to providing cutting-edge, accurate Monogenic Obesity Gene Test Services. From polygenic disease risk assessment to screening for specific genetic variants, our services are constantly being upgraded, aiming to fulfill our clients' in-depth needs for genetic information. On this basis, we provide professional NLGN2 gene testing services to reveal new clues about complex genetic diseases such as obesity.

NLGN2 Gene Testing Service: A New Perspective on Obesity Genetics Research

  • Gene sequencing: Our company offers NLGN2 gene high-throughput sequencing services to identify obesity. Through high-precision sequencing technology, we provide services to analyze single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), insertion/deletion variants, and structural variants in the NLGN2 gene.
  • Mutation analysis: After identifying variants, we provide in-depth NLGN2 gene variant analysis, including a detailed assessment of SNPs and insertion/deletion variants. Our researchers assess in detail the impact of the site change on the organism and the mechanisms of obesity onset and development.
  • Functional prediction: We provide services to determine the potential effects of variants on protein function. Using bioinformatics tools and experimental data, we provide services to predict the structure and function of proteins with specific variants.
  • Association analysis: Our research team provides association analysis of NLGN2 gene variants with obesity phenotypes to further assist clients in determining whether specific variants in the NLGN2 gene are significantly associated with obesity-related metrics (e.g., body mass index, body fat percentage, etc.).

Results: In this study, researchers analyzed genetic variants associated with schizophrenia (SZ) and obesity by exome sequencing and assessed the possible impact of these variants on disease risk. It was found that the NLGN2 gene ranked fourth in the broad variant category, encodes a postsynaptic protein. It was strongly associated with both SZ and obesity. The MC4R gene was associated with obesity risk, not SZ. The study also mentioned several other genes that may be associated with obesity, such as CRHR1, GDF3, and HIBADH, which showed higher signed log p-value (SLP) values in obese subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the functional activity of the NLGN2 gene?

The NLGN2 gene has cell adhesion, identical protein, and neuregulin family protein binding activity. It is involved in the regulation of protein localization, presynaptic organization, and synaptic assembly. The NLGN2 gene is also a biomarker for sciatic neuropathy and epilepsy. Its nonsense variant is associated with anxiety, autism, intellectual disability, binge eating, and obesity.

  2. What tissues is the NLGN2 gene often expressed in?

The NLGN2 gene is often expressed in the brain, adrenal gland, heart, lung, liver, kidney, and muscle tissues. Our company provides professional NLGN2 gene expression distribution identification and expression level detection services.
