Glucagon Metabolism Analysis Service

Inquiry

Overview

Glucagon is a polypeptide hormone secreted by pancreatic islet alpha cells. It plays multiple roles in Glucose Metabolism, both in regulating Insulin Secretion and in influencing physiological processes such as hepatic glycogen, fatty acids, and gastrointestinal motility. Glucagon resistance is a phenomenon in which the body becomes resistant to the action of glucagon, resulting in elevated blood glucose levels. It is common in diseases such as obesity and inflammation. Protheragen provides advanced glucagon metabolism analysis services to help our clients explore in-depth the role and mechanism of glucagon in regulating hepatic, renal, and intestinal gluconeogenesis.

In-depth Analysis of Glucagon Metabolic Pathway

Glucagon Concentration Assay

  • Our company has a wealth of animal models for analyzing glucagon concentration, distribution, and metabolite content.
  • Our lab provides a high-quality glucagon concentration assay by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
  • Our researchers not only provide accurate concentration data but also analyze the changes in glucagon content.
  • Our researchers offer professional measurements of serum glucose, triglycerides (TG), free fatty acids (FFAs), and liver glycogen levels.

Assessment of Pancreatic Alpha Cell Function

  • We comprehensively assess the functional status of pancreatic alpha cells by measuring glucagon levels at 0 hours, 0.5 hours, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours by oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and glucagon release test.
  • Our experienced researchers offer insulin-to-glucagon ratio (IGR) analysis to assess pathophysiologic states.

Glucose and Fat Metabolism Analysis

  • Sugar-related molecular metabolism analysis: Combining biochemical indicators such as blood glucose and insulin, our researchers analyze the role of glucagon in glucose metabolism and assess the body's ability to regulate blood glucose.
  • Fat metabolism analysis: Glucagon not only regulates glucose but also promotes lipolysis. Our company comprehensively evaluates glucagon levels to help understand the state of fat metabolism.
  • For metabolites, we offer high-throughput screening and characterization services to help clients fully assess the collective impact of changes in glucagon.

Results: In this study, a glucagon receptor (GCGR) knockout zebrafish model was used to investigate the function and mechanism of action of glucagon. 107 metabolites and 87 lipids were identified by metabolomics and lipidomics analysis, respectively. GCGR knockout zebrafish cholesterol metabolism was impaired, and glycerolipid metabolism was disrupted. These data provide important support for GCGR in metabolic remodeling and antagonistic therapy.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the relationship between glucagon and insulin?

Glucagon and insulin are oppositely acting hormones that work together to regulate blood glucose levels. The combination of glucagon testing and insulin testing provides a more comprehensive assessment of the body's glucose metabolism status.

  2. What is the mechanism of action of glucagon?

The main action of glucagon is to raise blood sugar levels. It provides energy by binding to receptors on the liver and muscle cells, prompting the liver to release stored glycogen and promoting the breakdown of fat by muscle tissue. Glucagon secretion is regulated by several factors, such as food intake, insulin levels, and nerve signals.

Protheragen uses advanced technology to help clients with an in-depth analysis of glucagon. We not only provide an analysis of the regulatory effects and mechanisms of glucagon on hepatic, renal, and intestinal gluconeogenesis but also include studies on the risk of glucagon resistance.
