Product Overview

Description: Uric acid assay kit is a metabolic test kit for detecting uric acid by the colorimetric method in the range of 1.30-80 mg/L.
Assay Principle: Reduction of phosphotungstic acid by uric acid in protein-free filtrates produces tungsten blue, allantoin, and carbon dioxide, with the shade of blue being proportional to the concentration of uric acid. Uric acid content is calculated by measuring the OD at 690 nm.
Background: Uric acid is a purine metabolite that is degraded to allantoin by uricase in most mammals. It is the end product of purine metabolism in humans due to the lack of the uric acid oxidase gene, and therefore, human blood levels of uric acid are higher than in most mammals. Uric acid is an important physiological plasma antioxidant that effectively protects biological targets from oxidation by hydroxyl radicals, hypochlorous acid, and peroxynitrite.
Synonyms: 2,6,8-trioxypurine; Lithic acid; Urate
Applications: Uric acid assay kit is used to measure the uric acid (UA) content in plasma, serum, and urine samples.
Research Area: Kidney biomarkers; Oxidative stress; ATP and related research; Obesity
