Product Overview
Description:
Total cholesterol and cholesteryl ester assay kit (Fluorometric) is a metabolic assay kit for the rapid and sensitive detection of total cholesterol and cholesteryl ester in the range of 0.12-30 μmol/L.
Assay Principle:
Total cholesterol (TC) includes free cholesterol (FC) and cholesteryl esters (CE). Cholesterol ester can be hydrolyzed by cholesterol esterase to form cholesterol and free fatty acids. Cholesterol is oxidized by cholesterol oxidase to produce ∆4-cholestenone and hydrogen peroxide. In the presence of the enzyme and the probe, hydrogen peroxide can be catalyzed to produce a fluorescent substrate. The fluorescence intensity at an excitation wavelength of 535 nm and an emission wavelength of 590 nm is proportional to the cholesterol concentration.
Background:
Cholesterol is a sterol, a lipid found in cell membranes. Most cholesterol in the blood is in the form of cholesteryl esters. Lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase in human plasma is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of cholesteryl esters. Cholesterol synthesized or deposited in peripheral cells is returned to the liver via the reverse cholesterol transport system for reuse or reacquisition of bile acids.
Synonyms:
TC/CE
Applications:
Total cholesterol and cholesteryl ester assay kit (Fluorometric) is used for the determination of total cholesterol (TC) and cholesterol esters (CE) content in serum, plasma, animal tissue, and cell samples.
