Urea assay kit (at OD 520 nm)

Specification

Description: Urea assay kit (at OD 520 nm) is a metabolic assay kit that is used to detect urea with a linear detection range of 0.08 mg/dL (13µM) to 100 mg/dL (17 mM).
Background: Urea is mainly produced by the liver and secreted by the kidneys. Urea is the major end product of protein catabolism in animals. It is the primary vehicle for the removal of toxic ammonia from the body. Generally, elevated urea levels are associated with nephritis, renal ischemia, urinary tract obstruction, and certain extra-renal disorders (e.g., obesity and diabetes). Decreased urea nitrogen levels indicate acute hepatic insufficiency and may also be caused by excessive infusion of parenteral fluids. Simple, straightforward, and automated procedures for measuring urea concentration in biological samples or blood urea nitrogen BUN are becoming increasingly popular in the fields of research and drug discovery.
Assay Type: Quantitative assay
Assay Principle: The kit is used for the direct detection of urea in biological samples without any pre-treatment. The improved method utilizes a chromogenic reagent that forms a color complex with urea. The intensity of the color measured at 520 nm is proportional to the concentration of urea in the sample. The optimized formulation greatly reduces interference from substances in the original sample.
Assay Target: Urea
Target Species: Universal
Research Area: Urea; Obesity; Food safety
