Specification
Description:
Urea (BUN) assay kit (Urease method) is a metabolic assay kit for the rapid and high-throughput detection of urea with a linear detection range of 0.28-35 mmol/L.
Background:
Urea is the major end product of protein metabolism in the body and accounts for the vast majority of non-protein nitrogen in the blood. Blood urea nitrogen comes from the liver and is excreted in the urine through the kidneys. Renal failure, nephritis, and urinary tract obstruction can elevate blood urea nitrogen levels. Urea is the largest circulating deposit of nitrogen other than the nitrogen in circulating proteins and is the main carrier of harmful ammonia from the body.
Assay Type:
Quantitative assay
Assay Principle:
Urea is broken down by urease into ammonia ions and carbon dioxide. Ammonia ions can react with aminoacyl groups in alkaline media to form a green substance. The amount of green substance produced is proportional to the urea content, which can be calculated by the 580 nm colorimetric method.
