Description:
Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) activity assay kit is an enzyme activity test kit for the rapid and high-throughput detection of ChAT in the range of 20-2000 U/mL.
Background:
ChAT is an acetylcholine biosynthetic enzyme that produces acetylcholine by catalyzing the transfer of acetyl groups from acetyl coenzyme A to choline. ChAT is synthesized in the perinuclear body of the neuron and is transported to the neuron by a slow axonal transport mechanism. It is the most specific indicator of the functional status of cholinergic neurons of the central and peripheral nervous system.
Assay Type:
Activity assay
Assay Principle:
Catalyzed by choline acetyltransferase (ChAT), acetyl-CoA reacts with choline to form coenzyme A (CoA), which binds to 4,4-dithiopyridine. The activity of ChAT can be calculated indirectly by measuring the OD at 324 nm.
