Product Overview
Description:
Pyruvate kinase (PK) activity assay kit is an enzyme assay kit for the rapid and sensitive detection of PK. The detection limit is 0.01 U/L.
Assay Principle:
Pyruvate kinase catalyzes the formation of pyruvate and ATP from PEP and ADP. The intensity of the color of the reaction product at 570 nm or the intensity of the fluorescence at Ex/Em = 530/590 nm is directly proportional to the amount of pyruvate produced by pyruvate kinase in the sample.
Background:
Pyruvate kinase (PK) is an enzyme involved in glycolysis. It catalyzes the transfer of a phosphate group from phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) to ADP, producing one molecule of pyruvate and one molecule of ATP. Pyruvate kinase deficiency is an inherited disorder that results from a deficiency of the enzyme pyruvate kinase, which slows down the process of glycolysis. Pyruvate kinase is also involved in gluconeogenesis, the biochemical pathway by which the liver uses pyruvate and other substrates to produce glucose.
Synonyms:
Pyruvic kinase
Applications:
Pyruvate kinase (PK) activity assay kit is used to detect PK activity in plasma, serum, cells, tissue, and to evaluate drug effects on PK activity.
