Description: Bovine interleukin 6 (IL-6) ELISA kit (7.8-500 pg/mL) is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA kit for analyzing the presence of bovine IL-6 in the range of 7.8-500 pg/mL.

Assay Principle: It is a sandwich enzyme immunoassay for the in vitro quantitative analysis of IL-6 in different samples. The microtiter plate provided in the kit is pre-coated with an antibody specific to Interleukin 6 (IL-6). Standards or samples with biotin-conjugated interleukin 6 (IL-6)-specific antibodies are then added to the corresponding microtiter plate wells. Avidin conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is then added to each microtiter plate well and incubated. Upon addition of the TMB substrate solution, only the wells containing interleukin 6 (IL-6), biotin-conjugated antibody, and enzyme-conjugated avidin will show a color change. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulfuric acid solution, and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at 450 nm ± 10 nm. The concentration of Interleukin 6 (IL-6) in the sample is then determined by comparing the OD of the sample to a standard curve.

Background: IL-6 is a cytokine with multiple biological functions. It is a potent inducer of the acute phase response, acting on T cells, B cells, hematopoietic progenitors, hepatocytes, and cells of the central nervous system. It plays an important role in the eventual differentiation of B cells into Ig-secreting cells. It also acts as an actin, which is excreted into the bloodstream after muscle contraction and can promote lipolysis and improve insulin resistance.
