Description:
Valerenic acid is a bioactive sesquiterpenoid isolated from Valeriana officinalis that displays a distinct neuropharmacological and transcriptional regulatory profile, selectively transactivating retinoid X receptor beta (RXRbeta) over RXRalpha and RXRgamma isoforms in HEK293T reporter assays with EC50 values of 5.2, 27, and 43 µM, respectively, while displaying comprehensive cross-reactivity at 30 µM against retinoic acid receptors, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors, liver X receptors, farnesoid X receptor, constitutive androstane receptor, vitamin D receptor, and pregnane X receptor systems.
