Product Overview
Description:
Juniperonic acid is an omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid naturally occurring in select plant oils, such as those from J. communis, that can be biosynthesized from alpha-linolenic acid in Caenorhabditis elegans models. It demonstrates functional rescue capabilities by reversing growth reductions and lifespan extensions in C. elegans mutants deficient in Delta6-desaturase that cannot endogenously synthesize arachidonic acid or omega-3 arachidonic acid, while also significantly reducing bombesin-induced proliferation of 3T3-Swiss mouse fibroblasts when administered at a concentration of 50 µM.

Applications:
Juniperonic acid serves as a polyunsaturated fatty acid reference compound for investigating uncommon fatty acid metabolism and lipidomic characterization. It supports analytical method development, structural identification of omega-series fatty acid species, and studies of polyunsaturated lipid pathways.
