Product Overview
Description:
Pongamol is a natural lipophilic flavonoid isolated from Pongamia pinnata seeds that possesses multifaceted biological properties, displaying targeted antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with MIC values of 8 and 6 µg/ml, respectively, and protecting PC12 neuronal cells against hydrogen peroxide-induced apoptosis across a concentration range of 2 to 80 µM. In vivo, a 50 mg/kg dose of pongamol successfully lowers blood glucose levels in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats and db/db mice; furthermore, within murine models of Alzheimer's disease induced by D-galactose, sodium nitrite, and aluminum chloride, it significantly improves spatial memory functions by decreasing tau hyperphosphorylation, blocking amyloid-beta aggregation, and suppressing the nuclear translocation of NF-kappaB in cerebral tissues.
