Product Overview
Description:
n-Propionyl-CoA is a short-chain fatty acyl CoA derivative derived from propionic acid, biosynthesized naturally via the catabolism of essential amino acids and the beta-oxidation of odd-chain fatty acids. This intermediate undergoes critical metabolic accumulation in cases of propionic acidemia—an autosomal recessive metabolic disorder driven by functional deficiencies in propionyl-CoA carboxylase (PCC), which normally converts n-propionyl-CoA into methylmalonyl-CoA—while also acting as a biosynthetic precursor for bacterial D-alpha-hydroxyglutaric acid production and serving as a validated internal recovery standard for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) quantification of HMG-CoA.

Applications:
n-Propionyl-CoA, lithium salt serves as a short-chain acyl-CoA reference compound for investigating acyl-CoA metabolism, organic acid-related metabolic pathways, and protein acylation processes. It supports quantitative metabolomics, enzymatic analysis, and characterization of short-chain CoA derivatives.
