Summary:
STEAP4 encodes a Golgi-localized member of the STEAP family with metalloreductase activity, enabling the reduction of iron and copper ions in an NAD⁺-dependent manner. Functional studies in both human and animal models indicate that STEAP4 participates in adipocyte differentiation, lipid metabolism, and inflammatory regulation within adipose tissue, linking it to obesity-related metabolic processes. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms have been identified.
