NAMPT activity serves as a central node linking nutritional status, energy metabolism, and aging. The secreted form of eNAMPT functions as an adipokine; studies have identified its abnormal expression in adipose tissue and serum of obese patients, suggesting potential roles in regulating insulin sensitivity and chronic inflammation.
