IRS-3 functions as a signal relay, transmitting signals from the insulin receptor to downstream molecules (such as PI3K), thereby initiating various cellular biological responses, including glucose transport, lipid synthesis, and cell growth. Given its central position in insulin signaling, it may play a role in obesity.
