Handling Notes:

Summary:
KIDINS220 (also known as ARMS) is a transmembrane scaffolding protein preferentially expressed in the nervous system. It acts as a central hub, interacting with membrane receptors, cytosolic signaling components, and cytoskeletal elements. This function allows KIDINS220 to mediate crosstalk between the neurotrophin signaling pathway and other intracellular cascades, thereby controlling neuronal survival, differentiation (axon/dendrite formation), and synaptic plasticity. Aberrant expression is implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Specific mutations cause a syndrome defined by spastic paraplegia, intellectual disability, nystagmus, and obesity.
