Product Overview
Description:
Rat cathepsin S (CTSS) ELISA kit (15.6-1000 pg/mL) is an ELISA-based in vitro research tool designed specifically for the quantitative detection of CTSS in rat with a range of 15.6-1000 pg/mL and a specificity of <3.9 pg/mL.
Assay Principle:
An antibody specific for CTSS has been pre-coated on a microtiter plate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells, and any CTSS is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing unbound material, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for CTSS is added to the wells. After washing, avidin-conjugated horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. After washing to remove unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells, and the color is developed proportionally to the amount of CTSS bound in the first step. The color development is stopped, and the intensity of the color is measured.
Background:
CTSS is an important member of the cysteine protease family. As a potent mammalian elastase, it can degrade various extracellular components, including fibronectin, laminin, elastin, and collagen. CTSS is abnormally expressed in various disease states, such as obesity and atherosclerosis, which makes it a biomarker and a potential therapeutic target. Studies have found that CTSS inhibitors may be a possible strategy for treating obesity.
