Description:

Assay Principle:
The ELISA analytical biochemical technique is based on HMGCL antibody-HMGCL antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect HMGCL antigen targets in samples.
Background:
HMGCL is a key enzyme that functions within mitochondria. It serves as a central enzyme in the ketogenesis pathway, responsible for cleaving hydroxymethylglutaroyl-CoA into acetoacetate and acetyl-CoA. Ketogenesis is the process by which the body converts fat into ketone bodies as an energy source during starvation or low-carbohydrate diets. Therefore, HMGCL is critically important in this process. While HMGCL itself does not directly cause obesity, its activity as a key enzyme for the efficient utilization of fatty acids is closely linked to how the body processes and consumes fat. Consequently, research into HMGCL function contributes to a deeper understanding of energy metabolism in obesity and offers new insights for developing therapeutic approaches targeting enhanced lipolysis.
