Description: Human fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) ELISA kit (15.6-1000 pg/mL, 5.9 pg/mL) is an ELISA-based in vitro research tool designed specifically for the quantitative detection of FGF21 in human with a range of 15.6-1000 pg/mL and a specificity of 5.9 pg/mL.

Assay Principle: The microtiter plate provided in this kit is pre-coated with an antibody specific for FGF21. Standards or samples are added to the corresponding microtiter plate wells and the biotin-conjugated FGF21-specific antibody. Avidin conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is then added to each microtiter well and incubated. Only wells containing FGF21, biotin-conjugated antibody, and enzyme-conjugated avidin will show a color change upon addition of TMB substrate solution. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulfuric acid solution, and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at 450 nm ± 10 nm. The OD of the sample is then compared to a standard curve to determine the concentration of FGF21 in the sample.

Background: FGF21 is a member of the FGF family and is the primary endogenous agonist for the FGF21 receptor. It is involved in various physiological processes and is associated with obesity. Studies have found that treatment with FGF21 analogues can normalize glucose utilization in obese mice and have shown some anti-obesity effects.
