Description: Guinea pig fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) ELISA kit is an ELISA-based in vitro research tool designed specifically for the quantitative detection of FGF21 in guinea pig with a range of 62.5-4000 pg/mL and a specificity of 37.5 pg/mL.

Assay Principle: The micro ELISA plates in this kit are pre-coated with an antibody specific for FGF21. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate micro ELISA plate wells and bound to the specific antibody. A biotinylated detection antibody specific for FGF21 and avidin-horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugate are then added sequentially to each microplate well and incubated. The free components ARE washed away. Substrate solution is added to each well. Only wells containing FGF21, biotinylated detection antibody, and avidin-HRP conjugate will appear blue. Upon the addition of sulfuric acid solution, the enzyme-substrate reaction terminates, and the color changes to yellow. Optical density (OD) is measured spectrophotometrically at 450 nm ± 2 nm. The OD value is proportional to the concentration of FGF21. The concentration of FGF21 in the sample can be calculated by comparing the OD value with the standard curve.

Background: FGF21 is a member of the FGF family and is the primary endogenous agonist for the FGF21 receptor. It is involved in various physiological processes and is associated with obesity. Studies have found that treatment with FGF21 analogues can normalize glucose utilization in obese mice and have shown some anti-obesity effects.
