Summary:
PHB1 is a highly conserved gene whose product has been implicated in cellular senescence, mitochondrial integrity, and tumor suppression. Antiproliferative effects have been attributed to regulatory elements within the 3′ untranslated region, which may act as a trans-acting RNA. Given its role in mitochondrial function and energy regulation, PHB1 has been linked to metabolic homeostasis and adipocyte biology, processes that are disrupted in obesity. Several pseudogenes and multiple splice variants have been reported.
