Description: Bovine agouti-related protein (AGRP) ELISA kit (78.0-5000 pg/mL) is a ready-to-use microwell, strip, or full plate ELISA kit for analyzing bovine AGRP levels with a detection range of 78.0-5000 pg/mL.

Assay Principle: The microtiter plate provided in this kit is pre-coated with an antibody specific for AGRP. Standards or samples are then added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells along with a biotin-conjugated polyclonal antibody preparation specific for AGRP, and HRP-conjugated avidin is added to each microtiter plate well and incubated. TMB substrate solution is then added to each well. Only wells containing AGRP, biotin-conjugated antibody and enzyme-conjugated avidin will show a color change. The enzyme-substrate reaction is terminated by the addition of sulfuric acid solution and the color change is measured spectrophotometrically at 450 nm ± 2 nm. The concentration of AGRP in the sample can then be determined by comparing the OD of the sample to a standard curve.

Background: AGRP plays a role in body weight homeostasis, is involved in the control of eating behavior through the central melanocortin system, and acts as an inverse agonist of MC3R and MC4R, thereby inhibiting their constitutive activity. Genetic variants in AGRP may be responsible for obesity.
