Handling Notes:

Summary:
STAT1 encodes a member of the signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) family that mediates gene expression in response to cytokines and growth factors. Upon activation by ligands such as interferon-α, interferon-γ, EGF, PDGF, and IL6, STAT1 is phosphorylated, dimerizes, and translocates to the nucleus to regulate transcription. STAT1-driven signaling is central to host defense against viral, fungal, and mycobacterial infections, but chronic activation of STAT1-dependent inflammatory pathways has been linked to metabolic inflammation and insulin resistance in obesity.
