Sorbitol dehydrogenase (SDH) activity assay kit is an enzyme assay kit for the rapid and sensitive detection of SDH. The detection limit is 0.1 U/L.
Background:
Sorbitol dehydrogenase catalyzes the interconversion of polyols and their corresponding ketoses and, together with aldose reductase, forms the sorbitol pathway. The first reaction of the pathway is the reduction of glucose to sorbitol via ALDR1 using NADPH as a cofactor. SORD then oxidizes sorbitol to fructose using the NAD(+) cofactor.

Assay Principle:
Tetrazolium salt MTT is reduced to reduced MTT in the NADH-coupled enzymatic reaction and shows an absorption maximum at 565 nm. The increase in absorbance at 565 nm is proportional to the enzymatic activity.
