Gamma-glutamyltransferase (γ-GT) is widely found in various organs of the human body. It is a key enzyme in the γ-glutamyl cycle. It catalyzes the degradation of GSH and is involved in the regulation of glutathione levels in tissues, amino acid uptake and excretion, and acylation of free amino acids in peptide chains.

Assay Principle:
γ-GT catalyzes the transfer of the γ-glutamyl group from glutamyl-p-nitroanilide to N-glycyl-glycine to form p-nitroanilide with a characteristic absorption peak at 405 nm. Thus, the activity of γ-GT is calculated from the rate of change of absorbance value.
